Dr. Hartwig here at Marcum Chiropractic in North Portland. All of the major joints in our body are called synovial joints, which means they have synovial fluid within the joints. The synovial fluid acts as a lubricant within the joint, similar to what motor oil does for a car’s engine.

It also delivers nutrients to the cartilage, the meniscus, and even the labrum within certain joints. The third thing it does is it actually creates a negative pressure within the joint capsule, which helps stabilize the joints. The best thing that you can do to keep the joints healthy is to keep the joints moving.

Movement circulates this synovial fluid throughout the joint, bathing the surfaces of the joint with this fluid and keeping them lubricated and filled with nutrients.

So, in other words, keep moving!
