The majority of Americans are overweight. The majority of Americans currently suffer from or will suffer a moderate-to-severe bout of low back pain at some point. The correlation between being overweight and low back pain cannot be overstated. Excess weight, especially belly or abdominal weight, puts additional stress on the lumbar spine that it is not built to support. If the stress becomes too much or is there for too long, something has to “give.” Damage can occur to the muscles, ligaments, tendons, discs, bones, joints or any combination of these. Once injured, the nerves in the region are often affected and cause severe pain and possibly symptoms that extend into the legs and/or feet. If you suffer from low back pain and/or have symptoms in your legs, schedule an appointment with Dr. Todd Hartwig at Marcum Chiropractic. He will diagnose the cause of your discomfort, get you feeling better, and come up with a customized plan to help you stay pain-free. 503-235-7130
