Many people carry extremely heavy purses or bags seemingly everywhere. Below are four simple tips to help prevent injury when carrying these types of things.
Step 1) Lighten the load! The less stuff in there, the lighter it is.
Step 2) Use multiple shoulder straps (if available). The more the weight can be distributed over a larger area, the better.
Step 3) If there’s only one strap/handle, alternate carrying the bag on your right and left sides. On odd-numbered days use your left hand/shoulder, on even days, use your right side.
Step 4) Use caution and both hands when lifting it above your head (for example, when stowing it in the overhead baggage compartment on a plane).
These simple steps can help you avoid neck, shoulder, elbow, and/or wrist injuries. Be safe!
