Are you slouching as you read this?  Hopefully not!  Unfortunately, there are many factors working against us in our never-ending search for perfect posture.  In today’s world, the worst culprit is technology.  This includes computer use, binge-watching Netflix, and worst of all, our cell phones!  Have you seen the hunch in people’s backs and necks when they are looking down at their phone?!?!  Ouch.

Here are a few helpful tips to assist you in our daily battle against poor posture:

  1. Stand at least 75% of the day.  It is MUCH easier to slouch while sitting, especially on a soft couch or chair.
  2. Prop up your phone, book, etc. so your neck does not have to be flexed forward to view it.
  3. When sitting or standing, pinch your shoulder blades together and hold that position for 30 seconds.  Do this hourly throughout the day.
