Dr. Hartwig here again in Marcum Chiropractic in North Portland. It’s back to school time again and two important reminders about how to safely use a backpack. The first and most important one is to use both straps on the backpack. If you only use one, the weight will be unevenly distributed on your back causing pain, misalignment, and muscle strain.
The other is that the weight of the backpack should be no more than 10% of your child’s body weight. So try to limit it and take out any extra book or trash or game that the child may not be using on a regular basis.
