Ankle sprains are the most common sports injury. While avoiding injury is not always possible, there are many things you can do to prevent an ankle sprain. First off, be sure to stretch your calf muscles daily. Next, wear the proper footwear for the specific activity you are doing. This is especially important for activities that require a lot of jumping (e.g., basketball, volleyball, etc.) and/or take place on uneven surfaces (hiking). Finally, wearing ankle braces and/or getting your ankles taped prior to the activity can lessen your chances of suffering an ankle sprain. Have fun and be safe!
