If you wake up with pain in your shoulders it may be because you’re sleeping on your side. Sleeping on either side puts a lot of pressure on the shoulder that’s on the bed. The other shoulder often has excess strain on it as the arm hangs in front of or behind the body.
What can you do to prevent this?
Sleeping on your back helps spread out your upper-body weight and puts minimal pressure on the shoulder joints. If you can’t sleep on your back, try sleeping with a body pillow wedged between you and the bed so your body is at a 45-degree angle to the surface of the bed. The pillow will help disperse your body weight over a larger area and ease the load on your shoulders.
Sweet dreams!
